FOX CORRUGOL FM211 is a single-component, water-based, solvent-free surface retarder designed for the production of exposed aggregate concrete (wash concrete / exposed aggregate concrete). Applied to formwork or fresh concrete surfaces, it retards the hydration process of cement at the surface, allowing aggregates to be exposed without the need for physical abrasion.

Product Description

FOX CORRUGOL FM211 is a single-component, water-based, solvent-free surface retarder designed for the production of exposed aggregate concrete. It is used in architectural applications (wash concrete, exposed aggregate concrete) where aggregates are required to be visible on the surface of cast-in-place or precast concrete. By retarding the normal hydration of cement at the concrete surface, it enables an aggregate-textured surface to be achieved without the need for physical abrasion processes such as sandblasting, scarifying, or bush-hammering. It is also effectively used for fresh concrete applications at horizontal construction joints and for creating permanently exposed aggregate surfaces such as walkways and terrazzo floors. The product can be diluted with clean water at ratios between 1:1 and 1:3 (1 part product : 3 parts water) depending on the desired degree of effect.

Advantages

  • Retards the normal hydration of cement at the concrete surface (high cement content and temperature reduce the retardation period). Once retardation is complete, the concrete continues to gain strength.
  • The depth of the retarded layer depends on the amount of product applied, the time elapsed before the retarder is removed from the surface, the water and cement content of the mix, and the ambient temperature.
  • Reduces the cost of surface-roughening labour.
  • Can be diluted according to the intended application.
  • Easy to apply.
  • Solvent-free.
  • Provides higher early strength compared to conventional water-repellent admixtures (for hardened concrete).
  • Imparts high ultimate compressive strength.
  • Provides a higher modulus of elasticity.
  • Improves adhesion to reinforcement.
  • Provides low permeability.
  • Imparts high durability.
  • Imparts low shrinkage and creep properties.

  • Fresh concrete applications at horizontal construction joints without the need for physical abrasion
  • Walkways and terrazzo floors with permanently exposed aggregate surfaces

Application Steps

  1. 1

    Dilution

Dilute the product with clean water at ratios between 1:1 and 1:3 (1 part product : 3 parts water) depending on the desired degree of effect.

  2. 2

    Formwork Preparation

Use only clean formwork. If working with new timber or highly absorbent formwork materials, apply the product in a minimum of two coats.

  3. 3

    Application to Concrete Surface

When applying the product to a concrete surface, apply after the bleed water of the freshly placed concrete has evaporated from the surface and before the concrete reaches initial set.

  4. 4

    Application to Formwork Surface

When applying the product to a formwork surface, pour the concrete into the formwork immediately after application.

Critical

The application temperature must be between +5°C and +35°C. High temperatures shorten the retardation period; low temperatures extend it.

Critical

When applying the product to a concrete surface, application must be carried out after the bleed water of the freshly placed concrete has evaporated from the surface and before the concrete reaches initial set.

Critical

When applying the product to a formwork surface, concrete must be poured into the formwork immediately after application.

Important

Use only on clean formwork. When working with new timber or highly absorbent formwork materials, apply a minimum of two coats.

Important

Store protected from freezing, between +5°C and +30°C, away from direct sunlight, in a cool and dry environment. Shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture.

Important

If the product freezes, allow it to thaw at room temperature without applying direct heat and mix mechanically until homogeneous. Do not use compressed air during mixing.

Important

For short-term storage, stack no more than 3 pallets high and dispatch on a first-in, first-out basis. For long-term storage, pallets must not be stacked on top of one another.

Critical

Approaching storage and application areas with open flame is dangerous. Storage and application areas must be ventilated.

Important

During application, appropriate work clothing, protective gloves, goggles, and a mask must be worn in accordance with occupational health and safety regulations.

Critical

Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of contact, wash immediately with plenty of water and soap. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.

Important

Food and beverages must not be brought into application areas. Store out of reach of children.
