Product Description

FOX SEALPLUS FM502 is a liquid crystalline capillary waterproofing admixture that reacts with water and the by-products of cement hydration in fresh concrete through its active components — comprising various special chemicals — to form insoluble crystal structures in the pores and capillary voids of the concrete, thereby reducing its water permeability. FOX SEALPLUS FM502 has the ability to self-heal and repair cracks below 0.4 mm that may form in concrete. The product is classified as a waterproofing chemical admixture under TS EN 934-2:2013 Table 9. It is applied by addition at concrete batching plants or to the transit mixer, dosed at 1–2.5% of the cement weight.

Advantages

  • Added to concrete during mixing.
  • Reduces the permeability of concrete.
  • Non-toxic.
  • Becomes an integral part of the concrete structure.
  • Reduces the passage of water and other liquids.
  • Can seal capillary cracks up to 0.4 mm.
  • Resistant to positive and negative hydrostatic pressure.
  • Provides protection against sewage and industrial waste.

Usage Areas

  • In foundations and basements
  • In sewage and water treatment plants
  • In dams, canals, tunnels and harbours
  • In water reservoirs
  • In concrete pipes
  • In multi-storey car parks
  • In swimming pools
  • In retaining walls and breakwaters

Application Steps

  1. 1

    Determining the Dosage

FOX SEALPLUS FM502 can be used at 1–2.5% of the cement weight. The recommended optimum dose for most applications is 2% of the cement weight. The typical usage rate is 6–7 kg per 1 m³ of concrete. Trial mix results should be taken into account to achieve the optimum dosage and effect.

  2. 2

    Concrete Preparation

Ensure that the water/cement ratio is less than 0.5. To achieve the minimum water/cement ratio, it is recommended to use a concrete admixture from the FOX ADMENT PC FM301 or FOX ADMENT FM777 series.

  3. 3

    Product Addition and Mixing

FOX SEALPLUS FM502 should be dosed at concrete batching plants in the same manner as cement and other cementitious materials. It can also be added to the transit mixer. After adding the admixture, ensure thorough mixing at high speed for 5 minutes.

  4. 4

    Concrete Placing and Compaction

Place the concrete quickly and compact thoroughly.

  5. 5

    Curing

Ensure complete curing is achieved with the FOX ACURE FR570 curing compound.

  6. 6

    Additional Precautions

To minimise the risk of permeability, it is recommended to also use waterproofing products such as FOX MULTIPLUS® DUALGUM REACTIVE on the exterior of the concrete.

Critical

Application temperature must be between +5°C and +35°C. Application outside this range must not be carried out.

Critical

After adding the admixture, ensure thorough mixing at high speed for 5 minutes.

Critical

Ensure that the water/cement ratio is less than 0.5.

Important

If used in combination with other admixtures, these must be tested in advance.

Important

The product must be stored between +5°C and +30°C, away from direct sunlight, in a cool and dry environment. Shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture.

Important

Frozen product must be thawed at room temperature without direct heat and mixed mechanically until homogeneous. Compressed air must not be used during mixing.

Important

For short-term storage, pallets must not be stacked more than 3 high and shipment must follow a first-in, first-out system. For long-term storage, pallets must not be stacked on top of each other.

Critical

Approaching storage and application areas with open flame is dangerous. Storage and application areas must be ventilated.

Important

During application, appropriate work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn in accordance with occupational health and safety regulations.

Critical

During storage and application, contact with skin and eyes must be avoided; in case of contact, wash immediately with plenty of water and soap; if swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.

Important

Food and beverages must not be brought into application areas. Store out of reach of children.

Information

The technical values above are given for +23°C and 50% relative humidity. Higher temperatures shorten the time; lower temperatures extend it.
