Application Steps
- 1
Surface Preparation
The surface to be coated must be free of loose particles and cleared of all residues that could reduce adhesion, such as oil, grease and dirt. The surface may be damp or dry. Any flaking areas on previously painted surfaces must be removed and levelled using a repair mortar such as FOX FASTMORTAR FC245 or FOX BASEMOR FC205.
- 2
Priming
On old mineral renders and concrete: lightly absorbent, smooth surfaces should be primed with FOX DECODUR PRIMER; porous, absorbent, slightly sandy surfaces should be primed with FOX PRIMERA® FL220 diluted 1:1 with water. On old matt coatings: moderately absorbent surfaces should be primed with FOX DECODUR PRIMER thinned with a maximum of 3% water; porous surfaces should be primed with FOX PRIMERA® FL220 diluted 1:1 with water. Glossy surfaces: mechanically abraded if necessary, then primed with FOX UNIPRIMER FL555. Plastered surfaces and surfaces from which wallpaper has been stripped: prime with FOX PRIMERA® FL220 diluted 1:1 with water. Mouldy, damp and heavily soiled surfaces: prime with FOX MS BARRIER.
- 3
Mixing
FOX INOVA SILAN must be stirred with an electric mixer at 400–600 rpm before use.
- 4
Thinning
FOX INOVA SILAN may be thinned by adding a maximum of 5% water.
- 5
Application
FOX INOVA SILAN is applied with a suitable roller or spray machine at least 6 hours after priming the surface. A brush is recommended for painting corners and edges. After the first coat has dried (min. 6 hours), a second coat is applied using the same method.

Tool Cleaning
After application, all tools and equipment used must be cleaned with water.
To prevent lap marks and overlaps, application must be carried out wet-on-wet in a single pass.
During and after application, the surface must be protected from rain, water, mechanical impact and all other external influences for 24 hours.
Paints must not be applied in very hot or very cold conditions. The recommended air and surface application temperature is between +5°C and +30°C.
For new cement-rendered or bare concrete surfaces being painted for the first time, application must not take place until at least 28 days after completion.
Paint must never be applied directly over wallpaper; the wallpaper must be completely stripped from the surface.
The thinning ratios stated on the product label must be observed. Over-thinning the product causes problems with hiding power, roller marks and sagging.
Under-thinning the product may lead to thick application and cracking.
No powder or liquid additives should be added to the paint, and it must not be thinned beyond the ratio stated on the packaging.
No paint should be applied to dirty or damp surfaces. The surface must be prepared according to the type of paint to be applied.
When cleaning stains on walls, the entire wall — not just the stained area — must be wiped down; cleaning only the stained section may cause localised sheen differences on the surface.
Packaging lids must always be closed when work is interrupted during the day.
During paint application, cut-ins at doors, windows and ceiling-wall junctions should be completed first, then roller application should continue without interruption.
Rooms where application is carried out must be well ventilated. A mask, gloves and protective goggles must be worn during application.
In unopened packaging, the product can be stored for 12 months in a cool, dry place, protected from frost and direct sunlight.
The technical values above are given at +23°C and 50% relative humidity. Higher temperatures shorten the times; lower temperatures extend them.
