Product Description
FOX PURMAX® MASTIC is a modified polyurethane-based, two-component, high-performance joint filler and expansion joint mastic. Specially formulated for waterproofing of expansion joints and wide joints, this permanently elastic material exhibits excellent resistance to all weather conditions and chemicals after curing. With its resistance to jet fuel, diesel fuel and oils, it can be safely used on airport runways, power plants, motorways, bridges, viaducts, fuel storage tanks and petrol stations. It retains its elasticity within a service temperature range of -40°C to +90°C. Suitable for joint widths between 10 mm and 100 mm, it also delivers excellent results in expansion gaps exceeding 10 cm. Total solid content is 100% and it cannot be thinned. With a Shore A hardness of approximately 30±3, the product allows joint movement of up to ±35%.

Application Steps

Joint Fill Design
Joint width must be between 10 mm and 100 mm. For joints with a width of 10–50 mm, the application thickness should be approximately half the joint width (thickness/width ≈ 1/2). For joints with a width of 50 mm and above, an application thickness of 2.5–3 cm is sufficient. Movements occurring in expansion joints must not exceed ±35% of the joint width.

Surface Preparation – Concrete Surfaces
The inner and outer surfaces of expansion joints must be dry, sound, dust-free, clean and even. They must be free of oil, paraffin and silicone residues that would impair adhesion; loose particles must be removed. Surface defects must be repaired with FOX EPOMORTAR FC510.

Surface Preparation – Steel Surfaces
Surfaces must be cleaned of oil and rust residues that would impair adhesion, and shot-blasted. If shot-blasting is not possible, mechanical cleaning tools must be used. If the surface is greasy or oily, degreasers must be used.

Mixing
Before starting to mix, verify that the material temperature is between +15°C and +25°C. The entire component B must be emptied into component A; no material should remain in the packaging. The mastic must be mixed using an electric mixer fitted with a mixing paddle at 300 rpm, without entraining air, ensuring no unmixed material remains at the edges and bottom of the packaging, until a homogeneous mixture is obtained for at least 5 minutes.

Primer Application
Masking tape of appropriate width must be applied to the outer edges of the joints after surface preparation is complete. To prevent the mastic from adhering to the bottom surface and to control consumption, a polyethylene backer rod 5 mm wider in diameter than the joint width must be compressed and placed into the joint; the insertion depth should be half the joint width. The concrete surfaces of the joint must be primed using FOX PURMAX® PRIMER series primers with a suitable brush. Primer must not be applied to the surface of the polyethylene backer rod. Once the primer has reached a wet/dry consistency, proceed with mastic application. Mastic application must be carried out the following day after primer application; if this period has elapsed, the primer must be reapplied.

Mastic Application
FOX PURMAX® MASTIC is used only in horizontal joints. The ready-to-use material must be poured into the primed joint containing the polyethylene backer rod using a container with a suitable pouring spout or a front-loading aluminium mastic gun. To prevent air voids from forming, filling must begin from the surface of the backer rod and continue until the desired surface finish is achieved. After application is complete, the masking tapes must be removed from the surface without distorting the shape of the joint.

Tool and Equipment Cleaning
Tools and equipment must first be cleaned with paper towels, then wiped with solvent. Do not attempt to clean used rollers and brushes; they cannot be reused.

Store in original unopened packaging, between +5°C and +30°C, in a cool and dry environment, protected from frost. Shelf life is 6 months from the date of manufacture.

For short-term storage, pallets may be stacked no more than 3 high; for long-term storage, pallets must not be stacked on top of each other.

It is dangerous to approach storage and application areas with open flame; areas must be ventilated.

Work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn during application. Avoid contact with skin and eyes; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap. In case of ingestion, seek medical attention immediately.
Important
Food and beverages must not be brought into application areas. Store out of reach of children.
