Product Description
FOX SWELLING TAPE 520 is a flexible hydrophilic waterstop strip based on chloroprene rubber and hydrophilic resin that swells upon contact with water. It expands up to 500% on contact with water, filling joint gaps and forming a watertight seal. Thanks to its special protective coating that prevents premature swelling, the onset of swelling under normal conditions occurs 7 days after water contact; this feature provides protection against unintended water exposure (e.g. rain) on the construction site. Its dimensions are 5 x 20 mm, with a density of 1.22 kg/dm³, a swelling pressure of 1.30 N/mm², and a water impermeability of 2 bar. It contains no toxic substances. It resists petroleum products, minerals, vegetable oils, and greases, and has a broad resistance range against chemicals.

Surface Preparation
Surfaces to which FOX SWELLING TAPE 520 will be applied must be free of dust, dirt, oil, and loose particles.

Placing the Strip
FOX SWELLING TAPE 520 only works in confined and narrow areas. Since its expansion generates a certain pressure, it is recommended to place it in the middle section of the joint. On smooth surfaces, it must be mechanically fixed at 20–30 cm intervals between the inner and outer reinforcement, or secured with FOX PURSEAL PS600 mastic.

Application on Rough Surfaces
On rough surfaces: levelling is carried out with FOX PURSEAL PS600 mastic over a width of (+/−) 3 cm, the FOX SWELLING TAPE 520 profiles are pressed firmly into the mastic, and mechanical fixing at 20–30 cm intervals must be applied in addition to the mastic.

Application at Pipe Penetrations
FOX SWELLING TAPE 520 can be applied around pipes at pipe penetrations through reinforced concrete. It must be secured with FOX PURSEAL PS600 mastic or binding wire.

Splice Points
To ensure a complete watertight seal, the entire profile must be in contact with the joint surface. The ends must be placed so that they complement each other without overlapping.

Store in the original unopened packaging in a cool, dry environment, protected from frost. For short-term storage, stack no more than 2 pallets on top of each other and dispatch using a first-in, first-out system. For long-term storage, pallets must not be stacked on top of each other.

The technical values above are given at +23°C and 50% relative humidity. Higher temperatures shorten the time; lower temperatures extend it.
