Product Description
FOX MULTIPLUS® DUALGUM PRIMER SL is a single-component, solvent-based bitumen solution primer specially developed for mineral surfaces. It can be applied from the positive side in horizontal and vertical applications and is designed to be used as a primer layer beneath DUALGUM® series waterproofing systems. Its ready-to-use formulation requires no mixing. The product has a density of 0.98 gr/cm³ and a solid content of 75%. Drying time at +23°C and 50% relative humidity is 4–6 hours; final cure is 1 day.
Key Benefits
- Its ready-to-use, single-component nature saves time and labour on site.
- Can be applied by brush, roller or spray, adapting easily to different site conditions.
- Forms a compatible primer layer with DUALGUM® series waterproofing systems, ensuring systematic waterproofing reliability.
- Positive-side applicability on horizontal and vertical surfaces provides wide application flexibility.
- Low consumption range (150–250 gr/m²) enables economical application over large areas.
- Provides strong adhesion to mineral surfaces, preparing a solid substrate for the overlying coating system.
Advantages
- Applied by brush, roller or spray.
- Easy and fast to apply.
Usage Areas
- Used from the positive side in horizontal and vertical applications.
- Used as a primer beneath DUALGUM® series waterproofing systems.
Application Steps
- 1
Surface Preparation
Concrete substrates must be prepared using abrasive equipment (shot blasting, milling, diamond grinding, etc.) to remove laitance and achieve an open-pored surface. Weak concrete particles must be removed from the surface, and small voids and holes must be fully opened. Substrate repairs should be carried out with FOX MORTAR FC188 T repair mortar to prepare the surface.
- 2
Checking Application Conditions
Confirm that the surface moisture content is below 4% (CM measurement or oven-drying method). Ensure that relative air humidity does not exceed 80% and that there is no rising damp. Check that the substrate temperature is at least +8°C above the dew point. Surface, ambient and material temperatures must be within the specified ranges.
- 3
Mixing
FOX MULTIPLUS® DUALGUM PRIMER SL is ready to use; no mixing is required.
- 4
Application
FOX MULTIPLUS® DUALGUM PRIMER SL is applied by roller or spray. Ensure that the application covers the entire surface without gaps. A minimum of 4 hours must be allowed before applying any subsequent coating.
- 5
Cleaning of Tools
After application, tools and equipment must be cleaned with solvent or polyurethane thinner. Once the product has hardened, it can only be removed from surfaces by mechanical means.
The surface temperature at the point of application must be between a minimum of +5°C and a maximum of +30°C. Ambient temperature must be kept within the same range. The material temperature must be between a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C.
Surface moisture content must be below 4%. Test method: CM measurement or oven-drying method.
There must be no rising damp according to ASTM (polyethylene sheet test). Relative air humidity must not exceed 80%.
Beware of dew and condensation! Dew formation and water vapour condensation on uncoated or freshly coated surfaces will damage the coating. The substrate temperature must be at least +8°C above the dew point.
After application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. If water contact occurs, softening and blistering of the coating will result; the coating must be completely removed and reapplied.
After applying FOX MULTIPLUS® DUALGUM PRIMER SL, a minimum of 4 hours must be allowed before applying any subsequent coating.
Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.
In cold weather applications, ambient and substrate temperatures should be raised, and products should be conditioned at +20/+25°C before use.
Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from coming into contact with the coating while it is still fresh.
Open flames near storage and application areas are dangerous. Storage and application areas must be ventilated.
During application, appropriate work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn in accordance with occupational health and safety regulations.
Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of contact, wash immediately with plenty of water and soap. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately. Store out of reach of children.
The product should be stored at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, between +5°C and +30°C. Protect from frost. Shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture.
Consumption figures are given for ideal conditions assuming an ambient and surface temperature of 20°C. It should be noted that consumption will increase on uneven surfaces and in cold weather conditions.
The technical values above are given at +23°C and 50% relative humidity. Higher temperatures shorten the times; lower temperatures extend them.
