Application Steps

  1. 1

    Surface Preparation – Concrete Surfaces

Oil, grease, fuel and paraffin residues must be removed; the surface must be completely free of release agents, cement residues, dust, loose particles and cured membranes. Surface defects, uneven areas and corner edges must be repaired with FOX MORTAR FC188 T repair mortar to form a fillet with a minimum radius of 4 cm. Surface cracks must be filled and repaired with FOX PURSEAL PS600 polyurethane mastic.

  2. 2

    Surface Preparation – Asphalt Surfaces

The asphalt surface must be cleaned with a water jet. For applications subject to vehicle traffic, the load-bearing capacity of the asphalt must be appropriate for the loads in use. The asphalt surface must be shot-blasted to expose at least 60% of the aggregates.

  3. 3

    Surface Preparation – Bitumen Surfaces

Loose particles on the bitumen surface must be removed, blisters must be opened and the surface dried. Main cracks must be opened, repaired and taped over.

  4. 4

    Priming

The appropriate FOX EPOTHANE® or FOX PURMAX® PRIMER 1K series primer must be selected and applied according to the surface type. Care must be taken to ensure the substrate temperature is a minimum of +10°C. FOX PURMAX® 2K must be applied over the primer within the specified application window.

  5. 5

    Mixing

FOX PURMAX® 2K contains pigment and filler. It must be thoroughly mixed with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle until a homogeneous colour is achieved and no product remains on the bottom or sides of the container. Excessive mixing should be avoided to minimise air entrainment.

  6. 6

    Coating Application

FOX PURMAX® 2K can be poured onto the surface and applied evenly in a single coat using a notched trowel or squeegee. Alternatively, it is applied in a minimum of two coats by roller or brush. When applying by roller or brush, no more than 10–24 hours should elapse between coats.

  7. 7

    Tool Cleaning

After application, tools and equipment used must be cleaned with solvent or polyurethane thinner. Once FOX PURMAX® 2K has cured, it can only be removed from the surface by mechanical means.

Critical

Application temperature must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C. Application must not be carried out outside these limits.

Critical

After application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. In the event of water contact, softening and blistering will occur on the coating, causing it to lose its properties. The coating must therefore be completely removed and reapplied.

Critical

Concrete surfaces to be coated with epoxy/polyurethane must be at least 3 weeks old prior to application.

Critical

Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%. Attention must be paid to dew point and condensation.

Critical

Substrate temperature must be a minimum of +8°C. The substrate temperature must be above +8°C to prevent dew point and water vapour condensation.

Critical

Mixing must always be carried out with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle. If the specified mixing paddle is not used, air will be entrained into the product and air bubbles will form on the coating.

Important

When applying by roller or brush, no more than 10–24 hours should elapse between coats. If this period has been exceeded (e.g. more than 4 days) or if you are unsure about intercoat adhesion, FOX PURMAX® PRIMER 1K primer must be applied.

Important

Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.

Important

In cold weather, to improve workability, packaging should be conditioned at +20°C – +25°C before use.

Important

Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from entering the building while the coating is still fresh.

Important

For floors resting on ground, a vapour barrier layer must be installed and the building's roof, walls, doors and windows must be in place.

Important

The product must be stored between +5°C and +30°C, away from direct sunlight, at room temperature. Shelf life is 6 months from the date of manufacture.

Important

Must be stored in its original unopened packaging, in a cool and dry environment, protected from frost. For short-term storage, a maximum of 3 pallets may be stacked. For long-term storage, pallets must not be stacked.

Critical

Open flames near storage and application areas are dangerous; storage and application areas must be ventilated.

Critical

During application, appropriate work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn in accordance with occupational health and safety regulations. Contact with skin and eyes must be avoided; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap; if swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.

Important

Food and beverages must not be brought into application areas. Must be stored out of reach of children.

Information

Consumption figures are given for ideal conditions assuming an ambient and surface temperature of 20°C. It should be noted that consumption will increase on uneven surfaces and in cold weather conditions.

Information

In resin-based systems, pot life and curing times are affected by ambient temperature, substrate temperature and air humidity. Curing slows at low temperatures and accelerates at high temperatures.
