Product Description

FOX PURMAX® ULTRA is a polyurea-based, two-component, aliphatic, cold-applied, low-viscosity liquid waterproofing and protection material. It can be applied in a single coat using a squeegee or airless spray gun; it can also be applied by roller or brush in a minimum of two coats. Thanks to its pure elastomeric hydrophobic modified polyurea resin and special inorganic filler content, it offers excellent resistance to UV radiation, chemical, mechanical and thermal conditions. Its 100% solids content, crack bridging capacity and hydrophobic nature provide long-lasting waterproofing. It can be applied with the appropriate primer on many different surfaces such as concrete, asphalt, bitumen, steel, plywood and ceramic. After application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. If desired, it can be overcoated with FOX PURMAX® TOPCOAT.

Key Benefits

  • Single-coat application reduces labour and application time.
  • The crack bridging property ensures that cracks from the substrate do not compromise the integrity of the coating.
  • Retains colour and mechanical properties for a long time on terraces and roofs exposed to UV radiation.
  • Its non-flammable and flame-retardant structure offers a safe waterproofing option.
  • Applicable to different surfaces such as concrete, steel, asphalt and wood, providing versatility across a wide range of projects.
  • Suitable for light traffic; local repairs can be carried out easily.

Application Steps

  1. 1

    Surface Preparation – Concrete

Oil, grease, fuel, paraffin residues, release agents, cement laitance, shavings, loose particles and cured membranes must be completely removed. Surface irregularities and corners/edges must be repaired with FOX MORTAR FC188 T repair mortar to form a fillet with a minimum radius of 4 cm. Surface cracks must be filled and repaired with FOX PURSEAL PS600 polyurethane mastic. The appropriate FOX EPOTHANE® or FOX PURMAX® PRIMER 1K series primer must be applied.

  2. 2

    Surface Preparation – Asphalt

The asphalt surface must be cleaned with a water jet. For applications subject to vehicle traffic, the load-bearing capacity of the asphalt must be suitable for the loads in use. The surface must be shot-blasted to expose at least 60% of the aggregates, then the appropriate FOX EPOTHANE® series primer must be applied.

  3. 3

    Surface Preparation – Bitumen

Loose parts must be removed and blisters opened and dried. Main cracks must be opened, repaired and taped over. The appropriate FOX EPOTHANE® and FOX PURMAX® PRIMER 1K series primer must then be applied.

  4. 4

    Surface Preparation – Plywood/OSB

Ensure that the panels are correctly installed, clean all joints and tape them with appropriate tape, then apply the appropriate FOX EPOTHANE® series primer.

  5. 5

    Surface Preparation – Iron/Steel

Shot-blast to SA 2.5 quality prior to primer application, then apply the appropriate FOX EPOTHANE® series primer.

  6. 6

    Mixing

FOX PURMAX® ULTRA contains pigments and fillers. Mix thoroughly with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle until a homogeneous colour is achieved and no product remains on the bottom or sides of the container. Avoid over-mixing to minimise air entrainment.

  7. 7

    Priming

Surfaces to be coated must be pre-primed with the appropriate FOX EPOTHANE® series primer or FOX PURMAX® PRIMER 1K series. Ensure that the substrate temperature is a minimum of +10°C.

  8. 8

    Coating Application

FOX PURMAX® ULTRA can be poured onto the surface and applied evenly in a single coat using a notched trowel or squeegee. Alternatively, it can be applied in a minimum of two coats by roller or brush. When applying by roller or brush, the waiting time between coats must not exceed 10–24 hours. If this period has been exceeded (more than 4 days) or if you are unsure about intercoat adhesion, a FOX PURMAX® PRIMER 1K primer coat must be applied.

  9. 9

    Tool Cleaning

Tools and equipment used must be cleaned immediately after application with solvent or polyurethane thinner. Once FOX PURMAX® ULTRA has cured, it can only be removed from surfaces by mechanical means.

Critical

After application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. If water contact occurs, the coating will soften and blister, losing its properties; the coating must be completely removed and reapplied.

Critical

Surface temperature must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C. Application must not be carried out outside this range.

Critical

Ambient temperature must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C.

Critical

Material temperature must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C.

Critical

Relative humidity must be a maximum of 80%. Attention must be paid to dew point and condensation. Keeping the substrate temperature above +10°C prevents dew formation that could damage the coating.

Important

Concrete surfaces to be coated with epoxy/polyurethane must be at least 3 weeks old prior to application; a vapour barrier layer must be created for slabs on grade.

Critical

Mixing must be carried out with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle. Failure to use the correct mixing paddle will entrain air and cause air bubbles on the coating surface.

Important

When applying by roller or brush, the waiting time between coats must not exceed 10–24 hours. If this period has been exceeded (e.g. more than 4 days), a FOX PURMAX® PRIMER 1K primer coat must be applied.

Important

Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.

Important

In cold weather, packaging should be kept at +20°C–25°C to improve the workability of the products.

Important

Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from entering the building while the coating is still fresh.

Important

The product must be stored away from direct sunlight, between +5°C and +30°C, in its original packaging, in a cool and dry environment, protected from frost. Shelf life is 6 months from the date of manufacture.

Information

For short-term storage, pallets must not be stacked more than 3 high; for long-term storage, pallets must not be stacked on top of one another.

Critical

It is dangerous to approach storage and application areas with open flames; areas must be ventilated.

Critical

Work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn during application. Contact with skin and eyes must be avoided; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap; if swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.

Important

Food and beverages must not be brought into application areas. The product must be stored out of reach of children.

Information

Consumption figures are given for ideal conditions assuming an ambient and surface temperature of 20°C. Consumption may increase on uneven surfaces and in cold weather conditions.
