Product Description
FOX THERM-ALL® DUO FT388 is a cement-based, polymer-modified, fibre-reinforced thermal insulation board adhesive and render. It is used for bonding XPS, EPS and mineral wool insulation boards to reinforced concrete and rendered surfaces, and for direct rendering over the boards. It is also suitable for coating concrete, precast reinforced concrete elements, cement-bonded particle boards and existing rendered surfaces. Classified to TS EN 998-1/GP, CSIII, Wc1, A1, it offers ≥3.5 N/mm² compressive strength and A1 reaction-to-fire class. Its formulation of mineral fillers, synthetic additives and special polymers ensures excellent adhesion and a long working time.
Advantages
- Provides excellent adhesion.
- Fibre reinforcement prevents the formation of surface cracks.
- Easy to prepare and allows fast application.
- Long working time.
- Creates a smooth, ready surface for finishing coats (paint or mineral render).
- Resistant to freeze–thaw cycles.
Usage Areas
- For direct rendering over insulation boards
- For bonding insulation boards to reinforced concrete and rendered surfaces
- For coating concrete, precast reinforced concrete elements, cement-bonded particle boards and existing rendered surfaces
Application Steps
- 1
Surface Preparation
Surfaces to be treated must be sound and free from all lime, mould, dust and dirt. Areas requiring repair must be repaired with INNO-CRETE series repair mortars at least 24 hours before rendering. Mechanical dowelling must be completed before rendering. If the air temperature exceeds +20°C during application, the surface should be lightly dampened.
- 2
Mixing
Pour the appropriate quantity of water stated on the packaging into a clean mixing container. Slowly add FOX THERM-ALL® DUO FT388 into the water while mixing with an electric mixer at 400–600 rpm for approximately 2–3 minutes until a homogeneous consistency is achieved. Ensure no lumps remain in the mix. Allow the material to mature for 3–5 minutes, then remix for 1 minute before use. For adhesive mortar: 25 kg / 1 bag ≈ 6.00±0.25 litres of water. For insulation render: 25 kg / 1 bag ≈ 6.25±0.25 litres of water.
- 3
Adhesive Mortar Application
Apply FOX THERM-ALL® DUO FT388 with a trowel around the perimeter of the bonding face of the insulation boards and in dabs at the centre. The material must cover a minimum of 40% of the board surface. Press the boards firmly into position until the required level and evenness is achieved. Once FOX THERM-ALL® DUO FT388 has gained sufficient set, the boards are mechanically fastened to the surface with suitable dowels. On very smooth surfaces, the back of the boards is fully covered using a 10 mm × 10 mm notched trowel.
- 4
Insulation Render Application
Insulation boards are mechanically dowelled after FOX THERM-ALL® DUO FT388 render application. After applying the first coat of render over the boards, the render mesh is pressed lightly into the wet first coat so that it is embedded but not fully submerged. After the first coat has dried, the second coat of render is applied to complete the rendering process. Application thickness may be 3–5 mm. If the surface will remain unpainted for more than 3 weeks, FOX THERM-ALL® COATPRIM FT110 must be applied immediately.
- 5
Tool Cleaning
All tools and equipment must be cleaned with water immediately after use. Once FOX THERM-ALL® DUO FT388 has hardened, it can only be removed from surfaces mechanically.
If the ambient and surface temperature during FOX THERM-ALL® DUO FT388 application is below +5°C or above +30°C, application must be postponed until suitable temperatures are reached.
For exterior applications, the freshly applied surface must be protected from sunlight, rain, wind and frost for the first 24 hours.
After FOX THERM-ALL® DUO FT388 has been applied to the façade, the insulation boards must be mechanically fastened with suitable dowels.
FOX THERM-ALL® DUO FT388 must be mixed only with clean water — no foreign substances should be added.
While positioning the boards, the material on the board surface must not be allowed to dry and form a skin film.
If the surface will remain unpainted for more than 3 weeks after rendering is complete, FOX THERM-ALL® COATPRIM FT110 must be applied immediately as a primer before painting.
Opened packaging must be resealed and consumed within 1 week.
Working and reaction times of cement-based repair mortars are affected by air temperature, humidity and substrate temperature. High temperatures accelerate hydration and shorten working time; low temperatures slow hydration.
When stored correctly at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, between +5°C and +30°C, the shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture.
During application, appropriate work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn in accordance with occupational health and safety regulations. In case of contact with skin or eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and soap; if swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
Store in the original unopened packaging in a cool, dry place away from water, frost and moisture. During short-term storage, stack no more than 3 pallets high.
