Application Steps

  1. 1

    Surface Preparation

Concrete substrates to be coated must be prepared using abrasive equipment such as shot blasting, milling or diamond grinding to remove the cement laitance and achieve an open-pored surface. Weak concrete fragments must be removed, and small voids and holes must be fully opened. The resulting dust must be cleaned with an industrial vacuum. The substrate must meet the following requirements: compressive strength of at least 25 N/mm², tensile strength of at least 1.5 N/mm², moisture content of maximum 4%, temperature of minimum +5°C, and the substrate must be at least +3°C above the dew point.

  2. 2

    Priming – Horizontal Surface

To improve adhesion, reduce air bubbles and prevent liquid absorption on horizontal surfaces, the surface must be primed with a suitable primer from the FOX EPOTHANE® series. While the material is still wet, broadcast 40–45 Afs (0.2–0.5 mm) silica sand and allow to cure for a minimum of 12 hours (24 hours depending on conditions); remove excess with a scraper and clean any unbonded sand with an industrial vacuum.

  3. 3

Priming – Vertical and Timber Surfaces

For vertical and timber surfaces, FOX DECOPRİMER FL204 polymer dispersion-based adhesion primer must be used. For other surface types, consult the technical department.

  4. 4

    Mixing

Pour the amount of polymer indicated on the packaging (approximately 340 g of polymer per 1 kg of FOX BETONAGE® BASECOAT BC) into a clean container. Add approximately 28 g of colour pigment per 1 kg of polymer and mix until homogeneous. Then gradually add FOX BETONAGE® BASECOAT BC and mix with an electric mixer at 600–1000 rpm for 3–4 minutes. Do not allow lumping at the bottom of the bucket. Wait approximately 1 minute, then mix for a further 1 minute.

  5. 5

    1st Coat Application

Dampen the surface to be coated. Pour the prepared homogeneous mixture onto the surface and spread with a suitable trowel. Once the material has dried, sand the surface with 60-grit sandpaper. After sanding is complete, remove dust with an electric vacuum and wipe with a damp cloth. Consumption: 1.50–1.75 kg/m².

  6. 6

    2nd Coat Application

Before starting the second coat, dampen the surface thoroughly so that no dry areas remain. Repeat all steps applied in the first coat without omission. Consumption: 1.00–1.25 kg/m².

  7. 7

    Topcoat (Optional)

Optionally, after sanding, the surface can be primed with FOX DOMINO® AC SEALER FD791 primer and then finished with FOX PURATHANE® TOPCOAT WB clear matt/gloss product to complete the application.

  8. 8

    Tool Cleaning

After application, all tools and equipment used must be cleaned with water. Once FOX BETONAGE® BASECOAT BC has hardened, it can only be removed from the surface mechanically.

Critical

Application should not be carried out if the ambient and surface temperature is below +5°C or above +30°C; suitable temperatures must be awaited.

Critical

The freshly applied product must be protected from sunlight and wind to prevent rapid drying. Application should not be carried out in excessively hot, rainy or windy weather.

Important

Materials to be used in the application area should be brought and stored 1–2 days in advance to allow them to acclimatise to ambient conditions.

Important

In extremely cold weather, the ambient and substrate temperature should be raised using heaters, and the materials to be used should be conditioned at +20°C/+25°C to make them ready for application.

Important

After mixing, the material should be allowed to rest and then mixed again. Lumping of the material at the bottom of the bucket must not be permitted.

Critical

To allow the material to fully cure, the ambient and substrate temperature must not fall below the permitted minimum temperature.

Important

Opened packages must be resealed and consumed within 1 week.

Important

Store in original unopened packaging in a cool, dry environment, protected from frost. For short-term storage, stack no more than 3 pallets high. For long-term storage, pallets must not be stacked on top of one another.

Critical

It is dangerous to approach storage and application areas with open flame. Storage and application areas must be ventilated.

Critical

During application, appropriate work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn in accordance with occupational health and safety regulations. Avoid contact with skin and eyes; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.

Important

Food and beverages must not be brought into application areas. Store out of reach of children.
