Product Description

FOX STONECARPET® BINDER T is an epoxy-based, two-component, high-strength aggregate binder specially formulated for vertical applications. It ensures the permanent bonding of crushed and tumbled natural-coloured aggregates to surfaces. It can be used with confidence in interior and exterior areas with high traffic, such as airports, hospitals, shopping centres, hotels and retail stores. Thanks to its high mechanical strength and long-lasting structure, it gives surfaces an aesthetic and durable appearance. With a working time of 45 minutes and a final cure time of 3 hours, it offers practical application; full curing is completed in 7 days. The product consists of components A and B and must be used in accordance with the specified mixing procedures.

Application Steps

  1. 1

    Surface Preparation

    The concrete substrate to be applied must be opened to an open-pore structure using abrasive equipment (shot blasting, milling, diamond grinding, etc.) to remove the cement laitance. Weak concrete fragments must be removed, and small voids and holes must be fully opened. The resulting dust must be cleaned with an industrial vacuum. Substrate repairs and filling of voids must be carried out with FOX MORTAR FC188 T repair mortar.

    Checking Application Conditions

    Surface moisture content must be below 4% (to be tested by CM measurement or oven-drying method). There must be no rising damp according to ASTM (polyethylene sheet test). Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%. Floor temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point.

    Priming

    Surfaces to receive FOX STONECARPET® BINDER T must be pre-primed with FOX EPOTHANE® HB-HD primer. Ensure that the floor temperature is a minimum of +8°C. FOX STONECARPET® BINDER T must be applied over the primer within the application window.

    Mixing

    Ensure that product temperatures are between +10°C and +30°C. Mix component A FOX STONECARPET® BINDER T with a suitable mixer for 1 minute without entraining air. Then pour component B onto component A and mix continuously for 2 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Add the selected aggregates as desired and mix for a further 2–3 minutes. Mixing equipment: electric mixer at 300–400 rpm with an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle.

    Application by Trowel

    The FOX STONECARPET® BINDER T aggregate mixture is poured onto the surface and spread to the desired thickness using a suitable trowel or screed.

    Application by Power Float

    The FOX STONECARPET® BINDER T aggregate mixture is poured onto the surface. To achieve a continuous and even floor, power floating with a pan is carried out once the surface has reached a consistency capable of bearing the weight of the machine, or when the footprint depth is 0.5 cm.

  7. 7

    Tool and Equipment Cleaning

    Tools and equipment used after application must be cleaned with solvent or polyurethane thinner. Once FOX STONECARPET® BINDER T has cured, it can only be removed from surfaces by mechanical means.

Concrete surfaces to be applied must be at least 3 weeks old prior to application.

Surface temperature, ambient temperature and material temperature must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C.

The floor temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point. Dew formation and condensation will damage the coating.

After application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. If water contact occurs, softening and blistering may develop on the coating; in this case the coating must be completely removed and reapplied.

Mixing must be carried out with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and the specified epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle. Otherwise, air bubbles may form on the coating.

Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%.

Important

Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.

Important

In cold weather, ambient and floor temperatures should be raised; products should be kept at +20°C – +25°C to bring them to a ready-to-use state.

Important

Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from coming into contact with the fresh coating.

Important

The product must be stored between +5°C and +30°C, away from direct sunlight, in a cool and dry environment. Shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture.

Important

It is dangerous to approach storage and application areas with open flames; areas must be ventilated. Work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn during application.

Important

Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of contact, wash immediately with plenty of water and soap; if swallowed, seek medical attention immediately. Store out of reach of children.

Information

The technical values above are given for conditions of +23°C and 50% relative humidity. Higher temperatures shorten the times; lower temperatures extend them.

Information

Consumption figures are given for ideal conditions assuming an ambient and surface temperature of 20°C. Consumption may increase on uneven surfaces and in cold weather conditions.
