Product Description
FOX FLEXMORTAR® FX116 is a high-performance adhesive containing special cement, mineral fillers and polymer additives, meeting the TS EN 12004-1:2017 C2TES2 class. It offers improved adhesion properties with C2 class, slip resistance with T characteristic, extended open time with E characteristic, and highly flexible (≥5.0 mm transverse deformation) performance with S2 class. It can be safely used indoors and outdoors in wet and damp areas such as bathrooms, balconies, kitchens, swimming pools, hammams, water tanks and industrial floors; in underfloor heating systems and cold storage facilities. The product is available in grey and white colour options and is supplied in 25 kg polyethylene-reinforced kraft bag packaging. Bayındırlık Poz No: 10.300.2205.
Advantages
- Saves time and labour with a long working time.
- Non-slip on vertical applications, with high adhesion strength.
- Very comfortable and easy to apply.
- Flexible, unaffected by vibrations.
- Resistant to freeze–thaw cycles.
- Does not shrink.
- Thanks to its flexibility (S2 Class), it is resistant to surface stresses caused by sudden temperature changes.
Usage Areas
- Indoors and outdoors, on vertical and horizontal applications
- On all types of concrete screed, plaster, screed and cement-based surfaces
- For bonding tiles, ceramics, porcelain tiles, natural stone and similar materials over waterproofing in wet areas such as bathrooms, balconies and kitchens
- On underfloor heating and industrial floors
- For ceramic-on-ceramic bonding in renovation and repair works
- For bonding in swimming pools, hammams, water tanks, bathrooms, industrial floors and cold storage facilities
- In areas with heavy pedestrian and load traffic
Application Steps
- 1
Surface Preparation – Cement-Based Surfaces
Surfaces to be treated must be sound, free from all dust and dirt, and level. Areas requiring repair must be repaired with INNO-CRETE series repair mortars at least 1 day in advance. If the surface temperature exceeds +25°C, the surface should be lightly dampened.
- 2
Surface Preparation – Other Surfaces
For highly absorbent aerated concrete, gypsum plaster, chipboard, plasterboard and lime-plastered surfaces, FOX PRIMERA® FL220 is applied as a primer diluted 1:1 with water prior to application. Bonding is carried out at least 8 hours after primer application.
- 3
Surface Preparation – Wood Chip-Based Surfaces (OSB and Chipboards)
Wood chipboards must contain a maximum of 10% moisture. Boards applied to floors must be a minimum of 25 mm thick, and those applied to walls a minimum of 19 mm. Boards must be screwed to the surface at 30 cm intervals; edge joints must be at least 8 mm wide. Joints at board connections must be left open and filled with FOX PURSEAL PS600 (Polyurethane Mastic). In dry environments, wood chipboards must be primed with FOX UNIPRIMER FL555 or FOX STUCPRIMER FL888.
- 4
Mixing
The appropriate amount of water indicated on the packaging is poured into a clean mixing container. The FOX FLEXMORTAR® FX116 bag is opened and slowly added to the water while mixing with a drill mixer at 400–600 rpm for approximately 3–4 minutes until homogeneous. No lumps should remain in the material. The mixed material is left to rest for 3 minutes, then mixed again for 1 minute before use. Mixing ratio: for Grey, approximately 7.75±0.25 litres of water per 25 kg bag; for White, approximately 8.00±0.25 litres of water per 25 kg bag.
- 5
Application
Using the flat side of the trowel, apply a 1 mm thick layer of FOX FLEXMORTAR® FX116 to the application surface. Within the open time of 30 minutes, draw the toothed side of the trowel in one direction over the area to be covered to achieve a uniform thickness. When bonding ceramics or granite of varying thicknesses, it is recommended to also apply a 1 mm layer to the back of each tile. Ceramics or granite are pressed into the mortar to ensure full contact. Application is completed leaving the recommended joint spacing.
- 6
Applicability Test
Press a finger onto the adhesive applied to the surface. If the adhesive sticks to the finger, the open time has not elapsed and tiling can continue. If the adhesive does not stick to the finger, the open time has passed; in this case the existing adhesive must be scraped off the surface and fresh material applied.
- 7
Grouting
INNO-FIX Series grout fillers should be used to fill the joint gaps. Grouting can begin approximately 24 hours after application.
- 8
Tool Cleaning
Tools and equipment used must be cleaned with water immediately after application is complete. Hardened material can only be removed from the surface by mechanical means.
Application should not be carried out if the ambient and surface temperature is below +5°C or above +30°C; appropriate temperatures must be awaited. Application should also not be performed in excessively hot, rainy or very windy weather.
For outdoor applications, the surface must be protected from sunlight, rain, wind and frost for the first 24 hours.
Grouting can begin no earlier than 24 hours after application; foot traffic is also permitted no earlier than 24 hours after application.
Application should only be made to an area that can be covered within the open time of 30 minutes. If the adhesive does not stick to the finger, the open time has passed; in this case the adhesive must be scraped off the surface and fresh adhesive applied.
Once FOX FLEXMORTAR® FX116 has hardened, it can only be removed from the surface mechanically. Tools and equipment must be cleaned with water immediately after application is complete.
The product must be stored in its original unopened packaging, in a dry and cool environment (between +5°C and +30°C), protected from sunlight and frost. Shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture.
Opened packaging must be resealed and consumed within 1 week. For short-term storage, a maximum of 2 pallets may be stacked; for long-term storage, pallets must not be stacked.
Work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn during application. Avoid contact with skin and eyes; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
Working and reaction times of ceramic tile adhesives are affected by air temperature, humidity and substrate temperature. High temperatures accelerate hydration and shorten working time; low temperatures extend it.
Food and beverage items must not be brought into application areas. Store out of reach of children.
