Product Description
FOX EPOTHANE® BASECOAT CLEAR is an epoxy resin-based, two-component, high chemical resistance, solvent-free, self-levelling clear decorative floor coating. The recommended application thickness is between 1.0 mm and 2.0 mm. With a density of 1.1 gr/cm³, the product achieves a 7-day compressive strength of 60 N/mm² and a flexural tensile strength of 30 N/mm². Adhesion strength to concrete is >1.5 N/mm² and the total solid content is 100%. Pot life at +23°C is 1 hour. Prior to application, surface preparation with a suitable FOX EPOTHANE® series primer is mandatory.

Application Steps

Surface Preparation
Concrete substrates must be opened to a porous surface by removing the cement laitance using abrasive equipment such as shot blasting, milling or diamond grinding. Weak concrete sections must be removed, small voids and holes must be fully opened, and the resulting dust must be cleaned with an industrial vacuum. For filling voids and levelling the surface, a mortar prepared by mixing 60–70 AFS (0.1–0.3 mm) quartz sand with FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER series primer should be used.

Surface Quality Control
Concrete compressive strength must be at least 25 N/mm², tensile strength at least 1.5 N/mm², moisture content a maximum of 4%, and substrate temperature a minimum of +8°C. The substrate temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point. The surface must be clean, dry and free from foreign matter such as oil, grease, old coatings and curing compounds.

Priming
Surfaces to receive FOX EPOTHANE® BASECOAT CLEAR must be primed in advance with a suitable FOX EPOTHANE® series primer. The substrate temperature must not fall below a minimum of +8°C. The coating must be applied over the primer within the specified application window.

Mixing
After component B has been fully added to component A, mix with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm using an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle for at least 3 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Avoid excessive mixing to prevent air entrainment.

Coating Application
FOX EPOTHANE® BASECOAT CLEAR is poured onto the surface and spread evenly with a notched trowel. Once the coating reaches the appropriate consistency, a spike roller must be applied to remove air. If the spike roller application is delayed, marks may remain on the surface.

Tool and Equipment Cleaning
After application, tools and equipment must be cleaned with solvent or epoxy thinner. Once the product has cured, it can only be removed from the surface by mechanical means.
Surface temperature, ambient temperature and material temperature must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C.
The substrate temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point; otherwise condensation and water vapour will damage the coating.
After application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. In the event of water contact, softening and blistering may occur on the coating; the coating must be completely removed and reapplied.
Substrate moisture content must be below 4%; there must be no rising moisture according to ASTM.
Relative humidity must be a maximum of 80%.
Mixing must be carried out with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm using an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle; if the specified paddle is not used, air bubbles may form in the coating.
After component B has been fully added to component A, mixing must continue for at least 3 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained; avoid over-mixing to prevent air entrainment.
Concrete surfaces to be coated with epoxy/polyurethane must be at least 3 weeks old prior to application.
If the spike roller application is delayed, spike roller marks may remain on the surface.
Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.
In cold weather, packaging should be conditioned at +20°C – +25°C to improve workability before use.
Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from accessing the fresh coating.
The product must be stored between +5°C and +30°C, away from direct sunlight, in a cool and dry environment, protected from frost. Shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture.
For short-term storage, pallets must not be stacked more than 3 high; for long-term storage, pallets must not be stacked on top of each other.
Open flames near storage and application areas are dangerous; areas must be ventilated.
Protective clothing, gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn during application. Avoid contact with skin and eyes; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap; if swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
The product does not contain volatile organic compounds (VOC/solvents).
Technical values are given for +23°C and 50% relative humidity; higher temperatures shorten the times, lower temperatures extend them.
