Product Description

FOX PURATHANE® BASECOAT CP is a polyurethane-based, two-component, solvent-free, self-levelling floor coating material designed especially for car parks and industrial floors. The product is prepared by mixing components A and B in the specified ratio, poured onto the surface, applied with a notched trowel, and de-aerated with a spiked roller. Thanks to its 1–3 mm crack-bridging capacity, it covers existing surface defects and provides a seamless finish. Its adhesion strength exceeds 3.75 N/mm² (concrete failure) and Shore D hardness has been measured at 70. After application, the surface may optionally be overcoated with FOX PURATHANE® TOPCOAT series topcoat products.

Advantages

Usage Areas

  • Areas exposed to heavy/medium traffic loads
  • Car parks (especially multi-storey car parks)
  • Timber floor and refrigerated panel coatings (particularly preferred due to the flexible product structure)
  • Warehouses
  • Production areas
  • Aircraft hangars
  • Garages
  • Airports
  • Areas where the floor is required to have a certain degree of flexibility

Application Steps

  1. 1

    Surface Preparation

Concrete substrates to be coated must be mechanically prepared using abrasive equipment such as shot blasting, milling or diamond grinding to remove laitance and open the pores. Weak concrete sections must be removed, small voids and holes must be fully opened, and the resulting dust must be cleaned with an industrial vacuum. For substrate repair and surface levelling, a mortar prepared by mixing 60–70 AFS (0.1–0.3 mm) quartz sand with FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER series primer should be used.

  2. 2

    Surface Quality Control

The compressive strength of the concrete substrate must be at least 25 N/mm², tensile strength at least 1.5 N/mm², and moisture content a maximum of 4%. Floor temperature must be a minimum of +10°C and at least +3°C above the dew point. The surface must be clean, dry and free of foreign matter.

  3. 3

    Priming

Surfaces to receive FOX PURATHANE® BASECOAT CP must be pre-primed with the appropriate FOX EPOTHANE® series primer selected according to the surface condition. Floor temperature (min. +10°C) must be strictly observed, and FOX PURATHANE® BASECOAT CP must be applied over the primer within the primer's pot life.

  4. 4

    Mixing

Ensure that product temperatures are between +15°C and +25°C. Component A is homogenised using an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm with an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle until no product remains on the bottom and sides of the container. Component B is then added entirely to Component A and mixed for 3–4 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Over-mixing should be avoided to minimise air entrainment.

  5. 5

Application (Car Park / Anti-Slip Floor)

FOX PURATHANE® BASECOAT CP is poured onto the surface and applied evenly with a notched trowel. Once the coating reaches the appropriate consistency, a spiked roller is used to de-aerate it. Delayed use of the spiked roller may leave marks on the surface. Once the appropriate consistency is reached, 40–45 AFS (0.2–0.5 mm) silica sand is broadcast to fully cover the surface; for a rougher finish, 15–25 AFS (0.7–1.2 mm) silica sand is used. After 1 day, excess sand is removed with an industrial vacuum and unbonded sand is scraped off. As a topcoat, FOX ASPARTHANE® TOPCOAT or FOX PURATHANE® TOPCOAT UV is applied by roller or airless spray.

  6. 6

Application (Self-Levelling / Timber Floor or Refrigerated Panel)

FOX PURATHANE® BASECOAT CP is poured onto the surface and applied evenly with a notched trowel. Once the coating reaches the appropriate consistency, a spiked roller is used to de-aerate it. Delayed use of the spiked roller may leave marks on the surface.

    Tool and Equipment Cleaning

Tools and equipment used must be cleaned immediately after application with solvent or polyurethane thinner. Once the product has cured, it can only be removed from the surface by mechanical means.

Critical

The moisture content of the surface to be coated must be below 4% (should be tested by CM measurement or oven-drying method). There must be no rising damp according to ASTM.

Critical

Surface temperature, ambient temperature and material temperature must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C. Exceeding these values will adversely affect the properties of the coating.

Critical

The floor temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point. Dew formation and condensation will damage the coating.

Critical

After application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. In the event of water contact, softening and blistering will occur on the coating, causing it to lose its properties; the coating must be completely removed and reapplied.

Critical

Relative humidity must be a maximum of 80%.

Critical

Mixing must be carried out with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and the specified epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle. Using the wrong mixing paddle will entrain air into the product, causing air bubbles on the coating.

Important

Before starting to mix, ensure that the product temperatures are between +15°C and +25°C. Avoid over-mixing to minimise air entrainment.

Important

Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.

Important

Concrete substrates must be at least 3 weeks old prior to application, a vapour barrier must be installed for slabs on grade, and the building's roof, walls, doors and windows must be completed.

Important

In cold weather applications, the ambient and floor temperatures should be raised, and products should be conditioned at +20°C – +25°C before use.

Important

Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from entering the area while the coating is fresh.

Important

The product should be stored in its original unopened packaging, in a cool and dry environment, away from direct sunlight, protected from frost, between +5°C and +30°C. Shelf life is 6 months from the date of manufacture.

Important

For short-term storage, pallets may be stacked no more than 2 high; for long-term storage, pallets must not be stacked on top of each other.

Critical

It is dangerous to approach storage and application areas with open flames; areas must be ventilated.

Critical

Work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn during application. Avoid contact with skin and eyes; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap; if swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.

Important

Store out of reach of children. Food and beverages must not be brought into application areas.

Information

Consumption figures are given for ideal conditions assuming an ambient and surface temperature of 20°C. It should be noted that consumption will increase on uneven surfaces and in cold weather conditions.

Information

The product does not contain volatile organic compounds (VOC/solvent).
