Product Description
FOX PURATHANE® PRIMER 1K is a polyurethane-based, single-component, solvent-borne, flexible, waterproof and fast-curing low-viscosity primer. Thanks to its ready-to-use formulation, no mixing is required. It can be easily applied by roller, trowel or zero-notch squeegee. The product provides excellent adhesion and high bond strength; its chemical resistance and hydrophobic (water-repellent) nature make it a reliable primer layer in waterproofing systems. It has been developed to be fully compatible with the FOX PURATHANE® series of polyurethane waterproofing coatings. It can also be used as a repair mortar when mixed with an appropriate quantity of silica sand. With a total solids content of 100%, the product is ready for a subsequent coat within 24 hours after application.

Surface Preparation
Concrete substrates must be prepared using abrasive equipment such as shot blasting, milling or diamond grinding to remove laitance and achieve an open-pore surface. Weak concrete particles must be removed from the surface, and small voids and holes must be fully opened. The resulting dust must be removed with an industrial vacuum. Substrate repairs should be carried out with FOX MORTAR FC188 T repair mortar. The surface must be clean, dry and free from foreign matter such as dirt, oil, grease, coatings and surface curing compounds.

Verification of Application Conditions
The surface moisture content must be confirmed to be below 4% by CM measurement or oven-drying method. There must be no rising damp according to ASTM. Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%. The substrate temperature must be a minimum of +8°C; ambient temperature a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C; material temperature a minimum of +15°C and a maximum of +30°C. Caution must be exercised against dew formation and condensation.

Mixing
FOX PURATHANE® PRIMER 1K is ready to use; no mixing is required.

Application
FOX PURATHANE® PRIMER 1K is applied by roller, trowel or zero-notch squeegee. Ensure that the application covers the entire surface without voids. Use on excessively porous surfaces is not recommended; in such cases, EPOTHANE® PRIMER or EPOTHANE® PRIMER HB should be used. After application, a minimum of 24 hours and a maximum of 48 hours must be allowed before applying a subsequent coat; if more than 48 hours have elapsed, re-priming is required.

Tool and Equipment Cleaning
After application, tools and equipment must be cleaned with solvent or polyurethane thinner. Once FOX PURATHANE® PRIMER 1K has cured, it can only be removed from surfaces by mechanical means.
Dew formation and water vapour condensation on uncoated or freshly coated surfaces will damage the coating. To prevent this, the substrate temperature must be above +8°C.
The surface moisture content must be below 4%. There must be no rising damp according to ASTM (polyethylene sheet test). Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%.
After applying FOX PURATHANE® PRIMER 1K, a minimum of 24 hours and a maximum of 48 hours must be allowed before applying a subsequent coat. If more than 48 hours have elapsed, re-priming is required.
After application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. If water contact occurs, softening and blistering will develop in the coating, causing it to lose its properties; the coating must be completely removed and reapplied.
Use on excessively porous surfaces is not recommended. In such cases, EPOTHANE® PRIMER or EPOTHANE® PRIMER HB should be used.
Concrete surfaces to be coated with epoxy/polyurethane must be at least 3 weeks old prior to application; a vapour barrier layer must be provided for slabs on grade, and the building's roof, walls, doors and windows must be completed.
Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.
In cold weather, the ambient and substrate temperatures should be raised; to improve workability, packaging should be conditioned at +20/25°C before use.
Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from entering the building while the coating is still fresh.
Approaching storage and application areas with open flames is dangerous. Storage and application areas must be ventilated.
During application, appropriate work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn in accordance with occupational health and safety regulations. Avoid contact with skin and eyes; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
The product must be stored between +5°C and +30°C, away from direct sunlight, in a cool and dry environment. Protect from frost. Shelf life is 6 months from the date of manufacture.
Consumption figures are given for ideal conditions assuming an ambient and surface temperature of 20°C. Actual consumption may vary depending on surface texture and ambient temperature.
The technical values above are given at +23°C and 50% relative humidity. Higher temperatures shorten the times; lower temperatures extend them.
