Application Steps

  1. 1

    Surface Preparation

The surface should be cleaned using pressurised water where possible and must be completely free of oil, grease, fuel, paraffin residues, mould release agents, cement residues, shavings, loose particles and contaminated membranes. Weak concrete sections must be removed, cracks opened up and dust cleaned with an industrial vacuum. For surface repairs, 60–70 AFS (0.1–0.3 mm) silica sand should be mixed with FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER at the desired ratio. If used as a topcoat in FOX CARPARK® SYSTEM applications, a primer may not be required for broadcast sand applications depending on the system.

  2. 2

    Checking Application Conditions

Moisture in the substrate must be below 4% (measured by C-Aquameter, CM-Device or Darr Method), there must be no rising moisture according to ASTM, relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%, and the floor temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point.

  3. 3

    Material Acclimatisation

Products should be brought to the site 1–2 days before application and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions. In cold weather, packaging should be conditioned at +20°C – +25°C. Before mixing, verify that the product temperature is between +15°C and +25°C.

  4. 4

    Mixing

Component A (contains pigment and filler) must first be thoroughly mixed on its own with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm until a homogeneous colour is achieved and no product remains at the bottom of the container. Component B is then added entirely to Component A and mixed continuously for 3–4 minutes. Avoid over-mixing to prevent air entrainment. Pot life of the mixture: 1 hour at +23°C.

  5. 5

    Application

FOX PURATHANE® TOPCOAT should be applied by roller. Care should be taken to keep successive coats wet, minimising roller marks. Application should be carried out along the short edge, with each new strip started immediately adjacent to the previous one. A second roller pass should be made to ensure homogeneous distribution and prevent roller marks. A minimum of 2 coats is recommended for optimum performance. The waiting time between coats is at least 3 hours depending on ambient temperature.

  6. 6

    Tool Cleaning

Tools and equipment used must be cleaned immediately after application with solvent or polyurethane thinner. Once the product has cured, it can only be removed from the surface by mechanical means.

Critical

Ambient, surface and material temperature must be between +10°C and +30°C.

Critical

Moisture content in the substrate must be below 4%. (Test method: C-Aquameter, CM-Device, Darr Method.)

Critical

There must be no rising moisture according to ASTM.

Critical

Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%.

Critical

The floor temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point. Dew formation and water vapour condensation will damage the coating surface.

Critical

After application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. In the event of water contact, softening and blistering will occur; the coating must be completely removed and reapplied.

Critical

Mixing must be carried out with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle. Failure to use the specified mixing paddle will entrain air into the product, causing air bubbles on the coating.

Critical

The product must not be thinned.

Important

Before starting to mix, ensure that the product temperatures are between +15°C and +25°C.

Important

Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions. In cold weather, products should be conditioned at +20°C – +25°C before use.

Important

Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from coming into contact with the fresh coating.

Important

Once the product has cured, it can only be removed from the surface by mechanical means. Tools must be cleaned immediately after application with solvent or polyurethane thinner.

Important

Store in the original unopened packaging in a cool, dry place, protected from frost, between +5°C and +30°C. Shelf life is 6 months from the date of manufacture.

Important

For short-term storage, pallets may be stacked no more than 3 high; for long-term storage, pallets must not be stacked on top of each other.

Critical

It is dangerous to approach storage and application areas with open flames; areas must be ventilated. Wear work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask during application. In case of contact with skin or eyes, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap; if swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.

Information

Consumption figures are given for ideal conditions assuming an ambient and surface temperature of +20°C. Consumption may increase on damaged surfaces and in cold weather conditions.

Information

In resin-based systems, pot life and curing times are affected by ambient temperature, floor temperature and air humidity. Curing accelerates at higher temperatures and slows at lower temperatures.
