Application Steps
- 1
Surface Preparation
The surface should be cleaned using pressurised water where possible; oil, grease, fuel and paraffin residues must be removed. It must be completely free of release agents, cement residues, shavings, loose particles and contaminated membranes. For substrate repairs, filling voids and levelling the surface, the substrate should be prepared using a mortar obtained by mixing FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER series primer with 60–70 AFS (0.1–0.3 mm) quartz sand.
- 2
Priming
Surfaces to receive FOX PURATHANE® TOPCOAT WB must be primed in advance with FOX EPOTHANE® series primer. Ensure that the floor temperature is a minimum of +10°C. FOX PURATHANE® TOPCOAT WB must be applied over the primer within the pot life.
- 3
Mixing
Before starting to mix, ensure that the product temperatures are between +20°C and +25°C. Mix component A thoroughly within itself using an electric mixer (300–400 rpm) and a suitable mixing tip until a homogeneous colour is achieved. After adding component B entirely into component A, mix continuously for 3–4 minutes. Avoid over-mixing to minimise air entrainment.
- 4
Topcoat Application
FOX PURATHANE® TOPCOAT WB should be applied to the surface using a lint-free, short-pile velour roller. To minimise roller marks, ensure that successive coats are applied wet-on-wet. Application should be carried out along the short edge, and each new pass should be made immediately adjacent to the previous one. A second roller pass over the material should be made to ensure homogeneous distribution and eliminate roller marks.
- 5
Tool Cleaning
Tools and equipment used after application can be cleaned with water. Once FOX PURATHANE® TOPCOAT WB has cured, it can only be removed from the surface by mechanical means.
Dew formation and water vapour condensation on uncoated or freshly coated surfaces will damage the coating. To prevent this, the floor temperature must be above +10°C.
Surface temperature, ambient temperature and material temperature must be between a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C.
After completion of application, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. If water contact occurs, softening and blistering will form on the coating, causing it to lose its properties. For this reason, the coating must be completely removed and reapplied.
Concrete surfaces to be coated with epoxy/polyurethane must be at least 3 weeks old prior to application, and a vapour barrier layer must be created for slabs on grade.
Mixing must be carried out with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and the specified epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing tip. If the specified mixing tip is not used, air will be entrained into the product and air bubbles will form on the coating.
Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%. Pay attention to dew point and condensation.
Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.
For applications in cold weather, packages should be kept at +20°C – +25°C until ready for use.
Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from entering the building while the coating is still fresh.
Store in original unopened packaging in a cool, dry environment, protected from frost, between +5°C and +30°C. Shelf life is 6 months from the date of manufacture.
It is dangerous to approach storage and application areas with open flame. Storage and application areas must be ventilated.
Protective clothing, gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn during application. Avoid contact with skin and eyes; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
Food and beverages must not be brought into application areas. Store out of reach of children.
The consumption figures stated in the system technical documents are given at +23°C and 50% relative humidity. It should be noted that consumption will increase on damaged surfaces and in cold weather conditions.
Colour changes may occur due to the effect of chemicals. High temperature values and/or mixtures of chemicals may affect chemical resistance.
