Product Description

FOX EPOTHANE® ISO-CRACK EP-2K is an epoxy-polyurethane based, two-component, 100% solids flexible membrane. It has been specially developed for FOX BAU TERRAZZO coating systems to prevent cracks from reflecting through to the surface. Thanks to the unique adhesion and elongation properties of the resin, it delivers outstanding crack bridging performance, providing 140–160% elongation at break to accommodate horizontal surface movement. Its plasticiser-free flexible resin structure ensures long-term flexibility. It offers high adhesion strength to concrete and steel, excellent chemical resistance, and superior resistance to cold weather conditions. The product is applied on interior concrete surfaces prior to floor installation, as well as for crack bridging over existing cracks before subsequent coatings.

Key Benefits

  • Prevents reflective cracking, ensuring the long-term durability of the coating system.
  • 100% solids content results in low odour during application and improved workplace safety.

Application Areas

Application Steps

  1. 1

    Surface Preparation

Concrete substrates to be coated must be sound and have adequate compressive strength (minimum 25 N/mm²); tensile strength must be at least 1.5 N/mm², moisture content a maximum of 4%, and substrate temperature a minimum of +10°C. Care must be taken to ensure the substrate is at least +3°C above the dew point. The surface must be clean, dry, and free from all dirt, oil, grease, coatings, release agents, cement residues, laitance, loose particles, and cured membranes.

  2. 2

    Priming

Surfaces to be coated must be primed in advance with a FOX EPOTHANE® series primer. Substrate temperature (min. +10°C) must be strictly observed. FOX EPOTHANE® ISO-CRACK EP-2K must be applied over the primer within the pot life.

  3. 3

    Mixing

Mix component A thoroughly using an electric mixer (300–400 rpm) with an epoxy/polyurethane mixing paddle until a homogeneous colour is achieved and no product remains on the bottom or sides of the container. Then add component B entirely into component A and mix continuously for 3–4 minutes. Avoid excessive mixing to minimise air entrainment.

  4. 4

    Coating Application

FOX EPOTHANE® ISO-CRACK EP-2K is poured onto the surface and applied evenly in a single coat using a notched trowel or squeegee. 20–25 minutes after application, FOX PROMAT 69 mesh fabric is embedded into the surface and rolled over with a roller.

  5. 5

    Tool Cleaning

Tools and equipment used must be cleaned after application with solvents such as FOX CS810 or FOX C380. Once FOX EPOTHANE® ISO-CRACK EP-2K has cured, it can only be removed from surfaces by mechanical means.

Critical

Concrete surfaces to be coated must be at least 3 weeks old. Ambient and surface temperature must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C.

Critical

After application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. In the event of water contact, softening and blistering will occur on the coating surface; the coating will need to be completely removed and reapplied.

Critical

Relative humidity must be a maximum of 80%. Attention must be paid to dew point and condensation. The substrate temperature must be above +10°C.

Critical

Mixing must be carried out using an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm with an epoxy/polyurethane mixing paddle. Failure to use the specified mixing paddle will cause air entrainment into the product, resulting in air bubbles on the coating surface after application.

Critical

Surfaces to be coated with FOX EPOTHANE® ISO-CRACK EP-2K must have been previously primed with a FOX EPOTHANE® series primer.

Important

20–25 minutes after application of FOX EPOTHANE® ISO-CRACK EP-2K, FOX PROMAT 69 mesh fabric must be embedded into the surface and rolled over with a roller.

Important

Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.

Important

In cold weather, the ambient and substrate temperature should be raised; products should be kept at +20°C – +25°C to bring them to application readiness.

Important

Rain, dust, wind, animals, and insects must be prevented from coming into contact with the coating while it is still fresh.

Important

The product must be stored in its original unopened packaging, between +10°C and +30°C, away from direct sunlight, in a cool and dry environment, protected from frost. Shelf life is 6 months from the date of manufacture.

Critical

It is dangerous to approach storage and application areas with open flames. Protective clothing, gloves, goggles, and a mask must be worn during application. Contact with skin and eyes must be avoided; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.

Information

Consumption figures are given for ideal conditions assuming an ambient and surface temperature of 20°C. It should be noted that consumption will increase on uneven surfaces and in cold weather conditions.
