Product Description

FOX ADD TIXO is a viscosity-increasing thixotropic agent developed for epoxy and polyurethane-based products. The chemical structure of this product is fumed silica; it is white in colour and extremely easy to use. It is used in the preparation of epoxy or polyurethane putties and mortars, and in surface repair applications including vertical surfaces. It is compatible with FOX EPOTHANE®, FOX PURATHANE® and FOX STONECARPET® series products. It should be added at a maximum of 3% by weight of the A+B components of the epoxy or polyurethane product to be used, and mixed until a homogeneous, lump-free mixture is obtained. In unpigmented mixtures, the colour of the mixture turns white after the addition of FOX ADD TIXO.

Usage Areas

  • In the preparation of epoxy or polyurethane putties
  • In the preparation of epoxy or polyurethane mortars for surface repair, including vertical surfaces
  • With FOX EPOTHANE® series products
  • With FOX PURATHANE® series products
  • With FOX STONECARPET® series products

Application Steps

  1. 1

    Surface and Environment Preparation

Concrete surfaces must be at least 3 weeks old prior to application. A vapour barrier layer must be installed in slabs on grade. Ambient and surface temperature must be maintained between +10°C and +30°C. Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance to acclimatise to ambient conditions.

  2. 2

    Mixing the Epoxy/Polyurethane Product

Mix the epoxy or polyurethane-based material whose consistency is to be increased using an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm with the appropriate mixing tip, in accordance with the information specified in the relevant technical documentation.

  3. 3

    Addition of FOX ADD TIXO

Add a sufficient quantity of FOX ADD TIXO to the mixed product until the desired consistency is reached. FOX ADD TIXO must be added at a maximum of 3% by weight of the A+B components.

  4. 4

    Final Mixing

Mix the material until it is lump-free and homogeneous. If the mixed product contains no pigment, the colour of the mixture will turn white after the addition of FOX ADD TIXO. This is normal.

  5. 5

    Application

Apply the prepared mixture immediately. After application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours.

Critical

Concrete surfaces to be coated with epoxy/polyurethane must be at least 3 weeks old prior to application; a vapour barrier layer must be installed in slabs on grade; the roof, walls, doors and windows of the building must be completed; and the ambient and surface temperature must be approximately +10°C minimum and +30°C maximum.

Critical

Surface temperature, ambient temperature and material temperature must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C.

Critical

After application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. If water contact occurs, softening and blistering will develop on the coating, causing it to lose its properties. In this case, the coating must be completely removed and reapplied.

Critical

FOX ADD TIXO must be added at a maximum rate of 3%. Exceeding this ratio may adversely affect the performance of the mixture.

Critical

Mixing must be carried out with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and the specified epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing tip. If the specified mixing tip is not used, air will be entrained into the product, causing air bubbles to form on the coating after application.

Important

Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.

Important

In cold-weather applications, the ambient and substrate temperature should be raised; to improve workability of the products, packaging should be conditioned at +20°C – +25°C before use.

Important

Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from entering the building while the coating is still fresh.

Important

In resin-based systems, pot life and curing times are affected by ambient temperature, substrate temperature and air humidity. Curing slows at low temperatures and accelerates at high temperatures. To achieve full cure, ambient and substrate temperatures must not fall below the specified minimum levels.

Important

Store in the original unopened packaging in a cool, dry environment, protected from frost. For short-term storage, stack no more than 3 pallets high. For long-term storage, pallets must not be stacked on top of one another.

Critical

It is dangerous to approach storage and application areas with open flame; these areas must be ventilated.

Critical

During application, appropriate work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn in accordance with occupational health and safety regulations. Avoid contact with skin and eyes; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap; if swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.

Important

Food and beverages must not be brought into application areas. Store out of reach of children.

Information

When stored correctly at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, between +5°C and +30°C, the shelf life is 24 months from the date of manufacture.
