Product Description
FOX EPOTHANE® BASECOAT AS is an epoxy resin-based, two-component, solvent-free, self-levelling antistatic floor coating material. It is used as a topcoat on floors requiring an antistatic surface and offers high mechanical and chemical resistance. It is formulated to meet the relevant performance criteria of the EN 1504-2:2004 standard. The product has a density of 1.35 gr/cm³ and an adhesion strength to concrete of ≥1.5 N/mm², and is applied at a recommended coating thickness of 1.0–1.5 mm. The pot life at +25°C is approximately 45 minutes and full cure is completed in 7 days. The product is not diluted; components A and B are homogenised using an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and applied to the substrate with a notched trowel, followed by de-aeration with a spike roller. It forms the topcoat layer of the FOX EPOTHANE® 1220 AS system.

Application Steps

Surface Preparation
The concrete substrate to be coated must be opened to a porous surface by removing the cement laitance using abrasive equipment such as shot blasting, milling or diamond grinding. Weak concrete pieces must be removed, small voids and holes must be fully opened and dust must be cleaned with an industrial vacuum. Voids and damaged areas must be repaired with a mixture of FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER + 60–70 AFS (0.1–0.3 mm) silica sand. Surface moisture content must be below 4%, relative humidity must be a maximum of 80%, and the floor temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point.

Priming
The appropriate primer option (FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER, PRIMER HB, PRIMER FL or PRIMER FL-HB) is selected according to the surface condition. Components A and B of the relevant primer are homogenised using an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm; 60–70 AFS (0.1–0.3 mm) silica sand is added if required. The prepared primer is applied at approximately 300–500 gr/m² consumption using a roller, trowel or zero-notch trowel.

Earthing
Self-adhesive FOX ESD CONDUCTIVE TAPE is applied over the cured primer. It must be ensured that every point of the tapes is connected to the main earthing line. If the resistance value is 10⁷–10⁸, the tapes can be laid at 3-metre or preferably 1-metre intervals. FOX ESD CONDUCTIVE TERMINAL (floor earthing terminal) must be used for the earthing process.

Conductive Coating (FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER AS)
Components A and B of FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER AS are homogenised using an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm. The prepared mixture is applied at approximately 100 gr/m² consumption using a roller, trowel or zero-notch trowel. Two coats are recommended.

Mixing (FOX EPOTHANE® BASECOAT AS)
Ensure that product temperatures are between +10°C and +30°C. Component A (containing pigment and filler) is mixed on its own using an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm until a homogeneous colour is achieved and no product remains at the bottom or sides of the container. Component B is then fully added to component A and mixed for at least 3 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. The required amount of 60–70 AFS (0.1–0.3 mm) silica sand is added and mixed for a further 2 minutes. Excessive mixing must be avoided to prevent air entrainment.

Application
FOX EPOTHANE® BASECOAT AS is poured onto the surface at approximately 1.8 kg/m² consumption and applied evenly with a notched trowel. Once the coating reaches the appropriate consistency, a spike roller is applied to de-aerate. If the spike roller application is delayed, spike roller marks may remain on the surface.

Cleaning of Application Tools
Tools and equipment used must be cleaned with solvents such as FOX CS810 or FOX C380 after application. Once the product has hardened, it can only be removed from the surface by mechanical means.
Concrete surfaces to be coated must be at least 3 weeks old prior to application.
Surface and ambient temperature must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C. Application must not be carried out outside these limits.
After application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. In the event of water contact, the coating will soften and blister; in this case the coating must be completely removed and reapplied.
Surface moisture content must be below 4%. There must be no rising damp according to ASTM (polyethylene sheet test).
The floor temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point. Attention must be paid to dew formation and condensation; dew formation on fresh coating will damage the coating.
FOX EPOTHANE® BASECOAT AS must not be diluted; it must be used directly.
After component B has been fully added to component A, the mixture must be stirred for at least 3 minutes until a homogeneous mix is obtained. Mixing must be carried out using an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm with an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle. Otherwise, air bubbles will form on the coating.
Surfaces to which FOX EPOTHANE® BASECOAT AS is to be applied must have been previously primed with FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER AS primer.
If the spike roller application is delayed, spike roller marks may remain on the surface; de-aeration must be carried out without delay once the coating reaches the correct consistency.
Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days before application and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.
In cold weather, packaging should be conditioned at +20°C–+25°C to improve workability before use.
Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from coming into contact with the fresh coating.
Can be stored for 12 months in unopened packaging, in a cool and dry place, protected from frost and direct sunlight. The packaging lid must be closed airtight immediately after use.
Approaching storage and application areas with open flames is dangerous; areas must be well ventilated.
During application, appropriate work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask in accordance with occupational health and safety regulations must be worn. Contact with skin and eyes must be avoided; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap; if swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
The EU limit value for the VOC content of this product (category IIA/j type sb) is max. 500 g/l (2010). This product contains <500 g/l VOC.
Consumption figures are given for ideal conditions assuming an ambient and surface temperature of 20°C. Consumption may increase on uneven surfaces and in cold weather conditions.
