Product Description

FOX PROCRETE® MC is a three-component industrial floor coating system obtained by modifying polyurethane-based resins with special additives and chemicals and adding a filler specific to those resins. With its textured, non-slip surface, excellent chemical resistance and resistance to thermal shock and solvents, it offers a long-life solution in industrial areas exposed to heavy or medium traffic and chemical loads. Usable in an application thickness range of 3-6 mm, the product covers a wide field of use from the food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries to water treatment plants and laboratories. The fact that it can be applied over 7-day-old concrete or over old concrete with a high moisture content without special primers allows fast scheduling. The product density is 1,38 g/cm³ and the 28-day compressive strength reaches 55 N/mm². The pull-off strength from concrete is above 3,60 N/mm².

Advantages

  • Temperature Resistance: When applied over PROCRETE® MF, a 6 mm coating does not lose its properties between -25°C and +120°C; it is resistant to continuous thermal shock and thermal cycling.
  • Slip Resistance: In the wet floor test with 4-S rubber in accordance with EN13036-4 it has a very low slip potential (R13); it forms a non-slip floor even on wet and oily surfaces.
  • Volatile Substances and Odour: VOC emission chamber testing and quality control procedures show very low emissions; it meets indoor emission requirements and there is no risk of it imparting odour to foodstuffs.
  • Chemical Resistance: Provides outstanding resistance to concentrated inorganic and organic acids, alkalis (including 50% NaOH), solvents, mineral oils and petroleum products.
  • Permeability: Exhibits zero permeability; the surface is non-absorbent.
  • Moisture Tolerance: Can be applied over 7-day-old concrete or over old concrete with a high moisture content without using a special primer.
  • Cleaning and Hygiene: Suitable for light steam cleaning; its monolithic structure prevents bacterial and fungal growth and meets the hygiene standards of the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Application Steps

  1. 1

    Surface Quality Check

    The concrete substrates to be coated must be sound and have sufficient compressive strength (at least 25 N/mm²). The tensile strength must be at least 1,5 N/mm² and the floor temperature at least +8°C. Care must be taken that the floor is +3°C above the dew point. The substrate must be clean, dry and free of foreign matter (oil, grease, coatings, etc.).

    Surface Preparation

    Concrete substrates must be made open-pored by removing the cement laitance with abrasive equipment (shot blasting, milling, diamond grinding, etc.). Weak concrete must be removed, small voids and holes must be fully opened up, and the resulting dust must be removed with an industrial vacuum. For substrate repairs, a mortar obtained by mixing 60-70 AFS (0,1-0,3 mm) quartz sand with FOX PROCRETE® PRIMER must be used. A joint 8-10 mm wide must be cut at column edges and at least every 4-5 metres in the floor.

    Ensuring the Application Conditions

    Surface temperature: minimum +8°C, maximum +30°C. Ambient temperature: minimum +10°C, maximum +30°C. Material temperature: minimum +15°C, maximum +25°C. Care must be taken against dew and condensation. The materials must be brought to the site 1-2 days before application and acclimatised to the ambient conditions.

    Mixing

    Before mixing begins, check that the product temperatures are between +15°C and +25°C. Component C is added into component A and mixed for 1 minute until a homogeneous mix is obtained. Component B is added to the resulting mix and stirred for a maximum of 3 minutes until a homogeneous mix is obtained. The use of a COLLOMIX Xo 55 duo or similar mixer is recommended. Over-mixing must be avoided.

    Priming

    The surfaces must first be primed either by scraping on FOX PROCRETE® MC with a suitable trowel or by roller application of FOX PROCRETE® PRIMER. If priming is carried out with FOX PROCRETE® PRIMER, the overcoating time is a minimum of 24 and a maximum of 72 hours. If priming is carried out with FOX PROCRETE® MC, the coating can be applied over the primer after a minimum of 8 hours.

    Coating Application

    The prepared mix is poured onto the primed surface and spread to the required thickness with a rake or a suitable trowel. 40-45 AFS silica sand (0,2-0,5 mm) is broadcast over it at 4 kg/m² so as to cover the surface completely. If a rougher surface is required, 15-25 AFS silica sand (0,7-1,2 mm) can be used. After 1 day the excess sand is removed with an industrial vacuum and loose sand is scraped off with a scraper. FOX PROCRETE® MC is then applied as a topcoat in two coats by roller or airless spray machine (0,6-0,8 kg/m²). At high temperatures the floor must be protected from direct sunlight, wind and air circulation.

    Cleaning of Tools and Equipment

    After application, the tools and equipment used must be cleaned with solvent. Once FOX PROCRETE® MC has hardened, it can only be removed from the surface mechanically.

Application must not be carried out if the ambient and surface temperature is below +8°C or above +30°C; suitable temperatures must be awaited.

Application must never be carried out at temperatures below +5°C.

FOX PROCRETE® MC Component A freezes below 0°C; particular attention must be paid to the storage conditions.

Beware of dew and condensation. Dew and water vapour condensation on an uncoated or newly coated floor damages the coating.

After the application of FOX PROCRETE® MC, at least 1 day must be allowed before another coating is applied over it.

Important

The product must not be applied in extremely hot, rainy or windy weather.

Important

Before mixing, make sure that the product temperatures are between +15°C and +25°C.

Important

Avoid over-mixing in order to minimise air entrainment.

Important

The materials to be used must be brought to the application area and stored there 1-2 days in advance so that they acclimatise to the ambient conditions.

Important

Priming time exceeded with FOX PRIMER: where more than 72 hours have passed, the surface must be primed again before FOX PROCRETE® MC is applied.

Important

Opened packaging must be resealed and used up within 1 week.

Important

The product must be stored in its original packaging in a cool, dry place at between +5°C and +30°C, away from direct sunlight and protected from frost.

Critical

Approaching storage and application areas with a naked flame is dangerous; these areas must be ventilated.

Important

During application, work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask complying with occupational health and safety rules must be used.

Critical

Avoid contact with skin and eyes; in case of contact, wash with plenty of soap and water; if swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.

Important

Food and drink must not be brought into the application areas. Store out of the reach of children.

The shelf life is 6 months from the date of manufacture. Make sure that the product is stored under the correct conditions (+5°C to +30°C, away from sunlight).

The technical values above are given for +23°C and 50% relative humidity. Higher temperatures shorten the times, lower temperatures extend them.
