Product Description
FOX PURATHANE® BASECOAT 1K is a modified polyurethane-based, single-component, high abrasion resistance coating material. The product has a density of 1,32±0,05 gr/cm³ and is available in RAL colours. It is applied when the substrate and ambient temperature is between +10°C and +30°C. Approximately 6 hours after application, it can be opened to pedestrian traffic. Pendulum hardness according to DIN 53 157 is ~165 s, and Taber abrasion according to ASTM D-4060 is ~85 mg (CS10, 1000 cycles, 10 N load). The product is not thinned. It is applied by roller or steel trowel; use with FOX EPOTHANE® series primer is mandatory. Total consumption in two coats is ~200 gr/m².

Application Steps
- 1
Ensuring Application Conditions
Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%. The substrate temperature must be above +8°C; precautions must be taken against dew point and condensation. Ambient and substrate temperature must be between +10°C and +30°C, and material temperature must be between +15°C and +25°C.
- 2
Surface Preparation
The surface should be cleaned using pressurised water where possible; oil, grease, fuel and paraffin residues must be removed. It must be completely free of release agents, cement residues, shavings, loose particles and cured membranes. For sub-surface repairs and filling of voids, a mortar obtained by mixing 60–70 AFS (0.1–0.3 mm) quartz sand with FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER series primer should be used.
- 3
Priming
Surfaces to be coated must be primed with FOX EPOTHANE® series primer. Ensure that the substrate temperature is a minimum of +8°C. Coating application can begin at least 6 hours after the primer has dried.
- 4
Mixing
Ensure that product temperatures are between +15°C and +25°C. Mix for 3–4 minutes using an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle until a homogeneous colour is achieved and no product remains at the bottom or sides of the container. Avoid over-mixing to minimise air entrainment.
- 5
Topcoat Application
FOX PURATHANE® BASECOAT 1K should be applied to the surface by roller or steel trowel. To minimise roller marks, ensure that successive coats are applied wet-on-wet. Application should be carried out along the short edge, and each new application should start immediately adjacent to the previous one. A second roller pass should be made over the material to ensure homogeneous distribution and to prevent roller marks.
- 6
Cleaning of Tools and Equipment
After application, tools and equipment used should be cleaned with solvents such as FOX CS810 or FOX C380. Once the product has cured, it can only be removed from the surface by mechanical means.
The substrate and ambient temperature must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C. Application must not be carried out outside this range.
After the application is completed, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. In case of water contact, softening and blistering will occur on the coating, and the coating will lose its properties and will need to be completely removed and reapplied.
Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%. Pay attention to dew point and condensation. The substrate temperature must be at least +8°C above the dew point.
Surfaces to be coated with FOX PURATHANE® BASECOAT 1K must have been previously primed with FOX EPOTHANE® series primer. Coating application can begin at least 6 hours after the primer has dried.
Concrete surfaces to be coated with epoxy/polyurethane must be at least 3 weeks old prior to application. A vapour barrier layer must be created on slabs resting on the ground.
Mixing must be carried out with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle. Using the wrong mixing paddle will cause air bubble formation.
The product is not thinned.
Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions. In cold weather, packaging should be kept at +20°C–+25°C to be made ready for use.
Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from coming into contact with the fresh coating.
Store in the original unopened packaging in a cool and dry environment, protected from frost. For short-term storage, stack no more than 3 pallets high and ship on a first-in, first-out basis. For long-term storage, pallets must not be stacked on top of each other.
Approaching storage and application areas with open flame is dangerous. Storage and application areas must be ventilated.
Work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn during application. Avoid contact with skin and eyes; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
In resin-based systems, pot life and curing times are affected by ambient temperature, substrate temperature and air humidity. Ambient and substrate temperatures must not fall below the specified minimum temperature levels.
Consumption figures are given for ideal conditions assuming an ambient and surface temperature of 20°C. It should be noted that consumption will increase on damaged surfaces and in cold weather conditions.
