Product Description
FOX PURATHANE® BASECOAT 1K UV is a modified polyurethane-based, single-component, aliphatic, high abrasion-resistant coating material. Its formulation containing pigments and fillers provides a homogeneous surface appearance. With a density of 1,53±0,05 gr/cm³, the product is available in RAL colours and requires no thinning. At +23°C and 50% relative humidity, it offers approximately 175 s pendulum hardness (DIN 53 157) and ~50 mg Taber abrasion value according to ASTM D-4060. It can be opened to pedestrian traffic approximately 6 hours after application. It is applied by roller or steel trowel following FOX EPOTHANE® series primer application. Once cured, it can only be removed by mechanical means.

Application Steps

Surface Preparation
The surface should be cleaned using pressurised water where possible; oil, grease, fuel and paraffin residues must be removed. Mould release agents, cement residues, shavings, loose particles and cured membranes must be completely removed from the surface. For substrate repairs, filling voids and levelling the surface, a mortar prepared by mixing FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER series primer with 60–70 AFS (0.1–0.3 mm) quartz sand should be used.

Checking Application Conditions
Relative humidity must be a maximum of 80%. Surface temperature must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C; ambient temperature a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C; material temperature a minimum of +15°C and a maximum of +25°C. Care must be taken against dew point and condensation.

Mixing
Ensure that material temperatures are between +15°C and +25°C. Mix for 3–4 minutes using an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm with a suitable epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle until a homogeneous colour is achieved and no product remains on the bottom or sides of the container. Avoid over-mixing to minimise air entrainment.

Priming
Surfaces to be coated must be pre-primed with FOX EPOTHANE® series primer. The substrate temperature must be a minimum of +8°C. After the primer has dried (minimum 6 hours), FOX PURATHANE® BASECOAT 1K UV application can commence.

Topcoat Application
FOX PURATHANE® BASECOAT 1K UV should be applied to the surface by roller or steel trowel. Care should be taken to ensure that successive coats are applied wet-on-wet to minimise roller marks. Application should be carried out along the short edge, with each new pass starting immediately adjacent to the previous one. A second roller pass should be made over the material to ensure homogeneous distribution and to eliminate roller marks.

Tool and Equipment Cleaning
After application, tools and equipment used should be cleaned with solvents such as FOX CS810 or FOX C380. Once FOX PURATHANE® BASECOAT 1K UV has cured, it can only be removed from the surface by mechanical means.
The surface and ambient temperature during application must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C. Application must not be carried out outside this temperature range.
Relative humidity must be a maximum of 80%. Care must be taken against dew point and condensation. The substrate temperature must be above +8°C; otherwise, dew formation and water vapour condensation will damage the coating.
After application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. In the event of water contact, the coating will soften and blister, losing its properties and requiring complete removal and reapplication.
FOX PURATHANE® BASECOAT 1K UV application must only commence after the FOX EPOTHANE® series primer has fully dried (minimum 6 hours).
Concrete surfaces to be coated with epoxy/polyurethane must be at least 3 weeks old prior to application, a vapour barrier layer must be created for slabs on grade, and the building's roof, walls, doors and windows must be completed.
Mixing must be carried out using an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm with an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle. Use of an unsuitable mixing paddle will entrain air into the product, causing air bubbles on the coating surface.
The material temperature must be between +15°C and +25°C prior to application. In cold weather, packaging should be conditioned at +20°C – +25°C until ready for use.
Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.
Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from entering the area while the coating is still fresh.
Store in the original unopened packaging in a cool, dry environment, protected from frost. For short-term storage, stack no more than 3 pallets high; for long-term storage, pallets must not be stacked on top of one another.
Open flames near storage and application areas are dangerous; these areas must be ventilated. Work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn during application. In case of skin or eye contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap; if swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
Consumption values are given for ideal conditions assuming an ambient and surface temperature of +20°C. It should be noted that consumption will increase on damaged surfaces and in cold weather conditions.
In resin-based systems, pot life and curing times are affected by ambient temperature, substrate temperature and air humidity. Curing slows at low temperatures and accelerates at high temperatures.
