Usage Areas

  • As a bonding agent between old and new concrete
  • For adhering different materials such as steel, iron, stone and concrete
  • As an adhesive for dowel insertion or reinforcement anchoring and installation on horizontal surfaces
  • For protecting reinforcement from corrosion prior to the application of repair mortars

Application Steps

  1. 1

    Surface Preparation

Surfaces to be treated must be sound and free from dust, dirt, oil, rust and contamination. Care must be taken to ensure there is no standing water on the surface. Metal surfaces must be free from rust. In repair applications, broken surface edges should be cut as squarely as possible. Rust on reinforcement must be removed and, if necessary, new reinforcement added.

  2. 2

    Mixing

Before starting mixing, ensure that material temperatures are between +15°C and +25°C. FOX EPOFLOW FC520 Component B is fully emptied into Component A. Taking care that no unmixed material remains on the sides or bottom of the packaging, mix for at least 3 minutes using an electric mixer at 400–600 rpm with a suitable mixing paddle.

  3. 3

    Application

For old-to-new concrete bonding, FOX EPOFLOW FC520 is applied to old concrete surfaces by brush or roller. On damp surfaces, the material must be worked thoroughly into the surface. Following this, new concrete must be poured within the period during which the material retains its tackiness (5–40 minutes), depending on air temperature. A suitable mortar gun must be used for vertical anchoring applications. Holes for anchoring must be drilled at least 6 mm larger than the anchor rod and cleaned with a wire brush and compressed air. After filling the hole, the anchor rod is inserted with a rotating motion.

  4. 4

    Tool Cleaning

Tools and equipment used after application must be cleaned with solvent. Once FOX EPOFLOW FC520 has cured, it can only be removed by mechanical means.

Critical

FOX EPOFLOW FC520 must never be mixed by hand or with a trowel; a suitable mixing drill must be used.

Critical

Solvents or similar materials must never be added to the FOX EPOFLOW FC520 mixture.

Critical

The pot life of the mixed material is 60 minutes; application must be completed within this time.

Critical

New concrete must be poured over old concrete within a maximum of 40 minutes after applying FOX EPOFLOW FC520.

Critical

For the material to complete curing, the substrate and ambient temperature must not fall below the permitted minimum temperature (+5°C).

Important

Before starting mixing, ensure that material temperatures are between +15°C and +25°C.

Important

The working and curing times of epoxy resin-based products depend on ambient and substrate temperature. The optimum application temperature range is +5°C to +30°C.

Important

The surface must be sound and free from dust, dirt, oil, rust and contamination. There must be no standing water on the surface.

Important

Holes for anchoring must be drilled at least 6 mm larger than the anchor rod and cleaned with a wire brush and compressed air.

Important

Opened packages must be consumed within 1 week with lids kept closed.

Important

The product must be stored between +5°C and +30°C, in a dry and cool environment away from direct sunlight. Shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture.

Critical

Approaching storage and application areas with open flame is dangerous; areas must be ventilated.

Critical

Work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn during application. Contact with skin and eyes must be avoided; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap. In case of ingestion, consult a doctor immediately.

Important

Food and beverages must not be brought into application areas; the product must be stored out of reach of children.

Information

Tools and equipment used after application must be cleaned with solvent. Once the product has cured, it can only be removed by mechanical means.

Information

Technical values are given at +23°C and 50% relative humidity. Higher temperatures shorten the time; lower temperatures extend it.
