Product Description
FOX PROMORTAR is a cement and lime-based ready-mix masonry mortar containing mineral fillers and polymer-reinforced special cement. It is used for laying masonry units such as brick, insulating brick, concrete block, and pumice block on interior and exterior walls. Manufactured in accordance with EN 998-2:2016, the product is classified as a thin-layer masonry mortar (T). Compressive strength class is ≥5 N/mm² (M5). Its water-repellent property limits capillary water absorption; the reaction to fire class is A1 and, due to its inorganic nature, it is non-combustible. Compared to traditional site-mixed mortar, it offers significant advantages in terms of transport, labour, and time.
Advantages
- Provides advantages in horizontal and vertical transport compared to traditional site-mixed mortar, saving labour and time.
- Reduces early water loss from the mortar in absorbent blocks.
- Enables uninterrupted working.
- Non-combustible due to its inorganic, cement-based composition.
Usage Areas
- For laying wall blocks such as brick, insulating brick, concrete block, and pumice block in interior and exterior applications in all types of buildings
- In residential, office and administrative buildings, shopping centres, hotels, hospitals, schools, and industrial facilities
- For filling the junction points of walls with columns and shear walls
- As rough/levelling plaster on interior and exterior wall surfaces
- As a substrate on concrete, brick, and block wall surfaces prior to final coat application
Application Steps
- 1
Surface Preparation
The surface must be load-bearing, clean, and dry; it must not be frozen. There must be no dust, dirt, oil, release agent, loose particles, or curing compound residue that could impair mortar adhesion. The surfaces of masonry units must be clean. Highly absorbent blocks and surfaces must be dampened before application, but no free water should be left on the surface. The need for a primer/bonding bridge on surfaces with varying absorbency should be assessed according to the project.
- 2
Mixing
The amount of water indicated on the packaging (approximately 4.75±0.25 litres for a 25 kg bag) is placed in a clean mixing container. FOX PROMORTAR is added slowly to the water and mixed with an electric mixer at 400–600 rpm for approximately 3–4 minutes until homogeneous. The material is left to rest for 30 seconds and then mixed again for 1 minute before use. No additives other than water must be added to the mix, and mortar that has set must not be re-mixed by adding water or fresh mortar.
- 3
Application
To correct level differences on the base, the first course is levelled using a suitable conventional mortar; this step is not required for subsequent courses. The prepared mortar is applied with a trowel to the horizontal and vertical contact surfaces of the blocks. After placing the blocks, they are tapped gently from above and the sides to seat them in position.
- 4
Tool Cleaning
Tools and equipment used after application must be cleaned with water. Once FOX PROMORTAR has hardened, it can only be removed from surfaces by mechanical means.
Masonry mortar application must be carried out at temperatures between +5°C and +35°C. Application outside this range must not be performed.
Mortar that has begun to set must not be re-mixed by adding water or fresh mortar.
No additives other than water (lime, cement, gypsum, sand, antifreeze, etc.) must be added to the mix.
Highly absorbent blocks and surfaces must be dampened before application to prevent premature water absorption from the mortar; however, no free water should remain on the surface.
In windy conditions, the application must be protected against rapid drying.
The product must be stored in its original unopened packaging, in a dry and cool environment (+5°C to +30°C), protected from sunlight and frost. Shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture.
Opened packaging must be resealed and consumed within 1 week.
